I just remembered the weird stringed instrument I played there.

It was shaped like a triangle, and has the natural notes on one side and sharps on the other, though I didn't see the labels at first. It's played with a bow.

Being a guitarist, I didn't know any songs that afforded that kind of design. So the lady there taught me Joy to the World, as a descending C scale..... but it took experimentation to get it right...

I went to show Devi and Poot the store; they're more accomplished musicians than I, so I figured they could pick it up a little easier. Suddenly I couldn't play Joy to the World anymore. But I did remember one song all of a sudden. I had to transpose it to A-minor, but that was the easy part. At least I think it worked. I probably screwed up the tempo big time, having to translate from guitar to whatever-this-was on the fly, and I miscalculated a few times. So it might not even have sounded like music to my audience, since the both of them left in the middle of the song.

But, I'm sufficiently intrigued that I want to join the SCA, find someone who already owns one of these instruments, and go to their house and practice it, so that if ever the need should arise again, I can play something that sounds like music on it.

I'd have bought one, but they're $225, and as Devi observed, total hell to tune.
