Funniest English #1

[Error: unknown template video]
I used to have some of this on VHS tape. Hopefully, more of it will make it onto Youtube.

We should have a version of this where Americans are asked to say things in Spanish.

I'm listening to an audio book of Hemingway's "For Whom the Bell Tolls," set during the Spanish Civil War, about an American working with anti-fascist Republicans in the mountains. Hemingway transliterates the spanish conversations, it seems, which might be, more often than not, spoken in an older Castillian dialect. Nonetheless, it experiences the "me talk pretty one day" effect, where grown people talking about wars and bridges and loves and fears all sound like 8-year-olds speaking an older form of English (Hemingway uses a lot of thee and thy). Easy to get used to, but still odd.

That was awesome. If you come across more, you should definitely share.

a 2nd and 3rd clip are available on youtube; they should be on that right-side sidebar when you watch this one.

Thw two I have on video tape aren't in this. I'll have to dig the one I can find up, and then find the one I can't find, and then upload them both. I'll be the king of Youtube.
