The latest XKCD (#351) was cryptic to me, so I looked up "rickroll". Long story short: someone anonymously posted a link that said it went to Grand Theft Auto 4 gameplay footage, but really went to a Rick Astley music video. This became a running joke, and a common way in which to troll people.

I must say that this is downright refreshing, after so many years of goatse and tubgirl and Rule 34.
